NCIS LA’s Marty Deeks ‘exits’ team as season 14 teases personal struggles
NCIS: Los Angeles’ core team of agents could suffer a major blow as the next episode hints at some major personal challenges for Marty Deeks.
LAPD liaison officer Marty Deeks (played by Eric Christian Olsen) finally became a bona fide NCIS agent in season 12 of the hit spin-off, NCIS: Los Angeles. After a new cast hit screens on CBS this past Sunday, the team’s next mission could be overshadowed by a dramatic decision from one of their newest members.
Agent Deeks could be considering leaving the team as a new challenge hits in the next episode of NCIS: LA.
In Sunday’s adventure, a rear admiral is abducted from his home and the task force is called in to investigate.
Meanwhile, new parents Deeks and Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) are still getting used to having their adoptive teen daughter Rosa (Natalia Del Riego) around the house.
This season also featured a touching visit from Deeks’ mother Roberta (Pamela Reed) who was introduced to the new member of the family.
However, some unexpected developments in the next episode, Survival of the Fittest, could force Deeks to reconsider his senior position within the NCIS.
A new synopsis for episode seven reads: “A Marine falls ill during a training mission due to an attack by a genetic weapon.
“Deeks struggles with balancing work and home life when Rosa comes down with the flu.”
Whilst G Callen (Chris O’Donnell), Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) and the rest of the team tackle another dangerous mission, Deeks is handling parenting duties.
Hopefully, Rosa’s illness isn’t too serious, but it will undoubtedly present some new challenges for Deeks and his wife.
Although Rosa is a self-sufficient teen, she’ll still need help adjusting to her new life in the United States.
If Deeks realises she needs more support, he may decide to either reduce his hours or leave the team altogether to make sure he’s spending enough time at home.
This would leave his NCIS partner Kensi more vulnerable out in the field, but it’s a risk the family may need to take in order to give Rosa the love and attention she needs.
Despite Deeks struggling with his work-life balance, he still finds the time to support his fellow agents with their next mission.
In the promo for this week’s episode, he’s shown racing into action along with Callen, Hanna and Devin Roundtree (Caleb Castille).
Callen and Hanna are seen exiting a car in pursuit of a dangerous suspect who could be about to cause untold damage to the population of Los Angeles.
Hanna warns his partner: “This guy wants to kill a lot more people.”
Their superior, Admiral Hollace Kilbride (Gerald McRaney) then confirms the team is dealing with a genetic weapon, the likes of which they’ve never seen.
The NCIS agents now face a race against time to take down their latest target before the weapon generates a t*****g d***h toll.
NCIS: Los Angeles season 14 continues Sundays on CBS in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
